  Chemtrails, Seeing is believing.

  before i begin, i want you to know i understand the difference between chemtrails and contrails, so lets leave those discussions behind, chemtrails exist.. what is the purpose of chemtrails ?

  if it was to artificially create clouds, why come to edinburgh ?

  for any of you who are unaware, 90% of the time its cloudy and rainy, so creating cloud cover, is a joke.

  I have a dear friend [and she is a dear friend indeed] who believes this same garbage, claiming to KNOW the difference between Contrails and Chemtrails. She often points them out to me. We live in farmland USA. If our government [or some other] was interested in affecting large portions of our society with large expensive and expansive chemical dispersions into the atmosphere - why would they bother with it HERE of all places? We have no disproportionate health issues here than anywhere else - our climate is pretty much the same as it has been for a hundred years - no major outbreaks of diseases of which I am aware.

  I just keep asking her this: "Why would they do that? Why here? What is the goal of spending billions of dollars on this 'project'? Can you prove using Socratic and other scientific methods that this is really happening here or anywhere else?"

  I am concerned, honestly, with the lack of honest skepticism among so many. Seems as if we as a people should just change our title to sheeple, get in line, and accept whatever is doled out to us. This is alarming to me, especially among those who have already once escaped from a system of mind-control that took away our ability to think/reason/examine.

  today i uploaded a new article highlighting the method of choice by watchtowers current governing body for dealing with problematic details haunting its doctrines.

  moving forward the current governing body will expand on this theme.

  They have been doing this for decades. This is nothing new. They have often printed an article, saying in effect at the end of that article; "Christians then need to use their God-given conscience to make choices in this matter that will please Jehovah, even though the Bible does not comment on this matter directly." This has usually followed two pages of 'strong' advice against or for a certain course of conduct, making it clear which choice the Watchtower Society expects you to make.

  I used to know a Watchtower Study Conductor who was famous for shutting up audience questions with 'I am assigned by the Society to propound the questions. We do not answer them from the platform, we ask them!'. He had been well trained by an organization that did the same thing. - "Shut up and quit asking why, what, when and how! We will tell you when you need to know. Wait on Jehovah!"

  As far as doing so from the service desk - in the early 80's I sent the Society a question about what the local brotherhood was demanding was a 'change' in Watchtower thinking on the matter of hunting and guns. The letter I received 'referred' me back to a Watchtower article from 20 years previous.

  So, in this, IMO, there is nothing new here.

  the few times that i've had a chat about my atheism, i usually get a response like the one above.

  "well, seeing how you were in a cult- i can understand why you're an atheist now," just dismissing the bulk of the reasons i have for my disbelief.. i think what is particularly awkward about someone telling me this is- it's part way true- only part way though.

  however, they stop listening after i explain to them that, "yes, being in a cult was an impetus to my search" and they fail to hear the rest of what i'm saying and believe that i went from point a to point f and just skipped all the steps and months of research in between out of some kind of anti-jw tantrum.

  I have seen it often myself. It is sooooo ironic from where it most often originates. From the mouth of another person who has accepted without investigation the cultural religion that he/she has learned from childhood.

  I really have to wonder out loud here: If there was a nation, I mean an actual nation of millions of people who had really believed and raised their children to believe in The Invisible Pink Unicorn, how would the rest of the world view them?

  This is exactly how religion now appears to me [and perhaps to many other atheists, for I don't wish to presume upon them]. Christians, Muslims, Jews, would laugh you out of the room if you professed belief in IPU, and meant it with a straight face. But the delusions of those major religions and many other 'minor' ones, are no less comical when viewed from a sober perspective.

  I still find it utterly amazing that my personal investigation, and the lack of a single shred of REAL EVIDENCE to support belief in invisible beings interested in mankind and having made 'arrangements' for our 'salvation', is taken as a reaction to my exit from a cult. The exit from a cult is traumatic, and as such, it begins the process of investigation, serious investigation, into religion, god, theology, for many, as it did for me. But it is not the reaction to such exit that has formed my atheism. I have openly invited any who think so to provide EVIDENCE to prove God's existence. No one has, nor can they.

  To make such assumptions is, to me, tantamount to assuming that a policeman, wounded in the line of duty, who later leaves the police force has done so out of fear. While that is possible, it is certainly not ALWAYS the case. He may have many other intelligent reasons for leaving - perhaps not the least of which is a desire to watch his children grow up for instance. But to assume his motives based on a single trauma, and without careful discussion about the matter with the individual, is foolish IMHO.

  It hasn't been that long ago that you were looking for a church to attend.

  Amazing isn't it? I attended a few of them. Every time I sat in one, it felt just like the cult from which I had emerged. Soon I discovered that I wanted to escape religion, for it was all the same stuff, in different packages. After that, it took a long time to call myself Atheist though. Even as an atheist, if God wants me, all he has to do is show himself. That's all I ask.

  As I recall, I am one of AK-Jeffs mentors. He is a smart guy. I also get along pretty well with BTS, another smart guy.

  And just when are the three of us going to quaff a beer or two? or LOL.

  New to this site. Scared, Lonely and in a lot of pain due to shunning by my family.

  i am a 30 year old former jehovah's witness and a mother of two beautiful girls.

  WW, I feel your pain. Most of us here do.

  I walked away after a lifetime [I was 48 when I left] of believing everything that came out of the Watchtower. I have been treated like dog-dung since then. I have lost all my 'friends', including my cousin, who was my best-friend for 40 years. You could measure the pain and the tears in buckets. But it gets better. It really does. The true freedom that comes from thinking, choosing, deciding for oneself how to live, where to go, what to believe or not believe, is worth it. Though at some points along the way it did not feel like that.

  Your journey is new. It is going to be the most incredible journey you can imagine. Your mind is going to open to a world that has been shut off, partitioned. You are going to be able to make decisions about your life, and hopefully the life of your children, that, in the end, will make all the pain, all the shunning, but a sting, and eventually just a memory. That is not now. But every journey begins.

  You will find on this forum people who have experienced much the same things. Also, some whom have endured more than you might be able to imagine. But you will find a recurrent theme: peace, as a result of personal freedom. I wish this for you. Time heals. Many here can help, and will.

  Love, laugh, live! Hopefully some here can help you as you take this momentous step into the unknown.

  NY Catholic Church on new gay marriage law

  i can't verify this online but a catholic told me the churches all had a liturgy on how bad gay marriage is and handed out a flyer to remind all members specifically what the church's position was on it.

  as if a reminder was needed.. now, call me opinionated, but sheesh.

  i get it, the bible condemns it, blahbety blah blah blah.

  Religion really is so devisive, and destructive, yet we give religion a pass? Makes a good atheist wish that the prophecies of destruction of BtG that we believed as Jw's were really true.

  Personally, though not gay myself, I rejoice with the law[s] that are beginning to tilt toward recognition legally of those who are gay. Hooray for them.

  I am also - I know this sounds like strange-bedfellows - in support of limited government, and fiscal conservatism. But in this matter I am decidedly liberal. Let these people live a life without being restrained by Victorian 'morals' plucked freshly from a 2000 year old [newest parts thereof] holy writ.

  Opinions on Streaming Netflix......

  my hdtv sits just feet behind the wall that houses my computer.

  i have a g-router for my laptops in the house.. i thought of running hdmi interface to my tv, but alas no hdmi outport on my computer.

  i used to use a laptop with vga, so considered doing the same with my desktop, but alas no vga port on my desktop computer.

  My HDTV sits just feet behind the wall that houses my computer. I have a g-router for my laptops in the house.

  1. I thought of running HDMI interface to my Tv, but alas no HDMI outport on my computer.
  2. I used to use a laptop with VGA, so considered doing the same with my desktop, but alas no VGA port on my desktop computer.
  3. I have considered a Wifi Blue-Ray player.
  4. I have considered a Roku player.
  5. I have considered a game console.
  6. I may eventually opt for google-tv or one of the many tvs being produced wi-fi ready. But prob not ready for that expense just yet.

  I would appreciate suggestions and experiences from those who have experimented, successfully or unsuccessfully with any of these options or others.
